What is BCAN?

If you’re a not-for-profit organisation providing advice, information or guidance to people in Brent, BCAN can help you and you can help BCAN. Membership is open to those who provide advice services as their main activity, and to those who complement their main services by offering advice and information.  We focus on local groups in Brent, but larger organisations can also join if their services are available to Brent residents. BCAN is funded through a contract with Brent Council.

Here’s why you should join

  • BCAN has over 70 members which reflect the borough’s diverse communities, and it’s expanding every week
  • It shows groups how they can strengthen their organisation and attract funding
  • BCAN groups work together to provide the best possible outcomes for the people who most need help
  • It provides training to help people to use our local advice website, Brent Advice Matters to find the advice they need.  The BAM website can also be used to help people to refer to other agencies for a ‘phone call or face-to-face advice interview.
  • BCAN organises collective training from top quality trainers, which is either free, or a fraction of the price you would normally pay.
  • BCAN has its own Brent Advice Fund which is exclusive to BCAN members.
  • It supports groups to gain externally recognised accreditation at a level that’s right for you, to show the public and potential funders that you have a professional approach.
  • BCAN offers a FREE database for recording details about the people you help and how you help them.
  • BCAN issues regular newsletters and bulletins, to keep you up to speed with the information you need to know
  • BCAN holds Conferences so you get to meet other BCAN members, learn about what they do and how you may be able to work with them.
  • BCAN members have access to the Members Area of our website – offering a host of information and training materials – there will be something there that’s right for you.
  • BCAN membership is completely free!

What our members are saying:

If it hadn’t been for BCAN we would never have got AQS. We had been talking about AQS for ages and the onerous task of accreditation. Thanks to the BAF funding stream, open to BCAN members, it was possible. Alexa and Lucy got to work and make it happen. We are so glad to have AQS and we certainly learnt a lot throughout this process.
